Why We Homeschool

Homeschooling….

An age old concept many are starting embrace once again. Others are on the fence but have zero idea where to even begin. Still there is a 3rd group that is vehemently opposed to.

For our family we fall into the first group. My husband was homeschooled k-12 and i did a little bit of everything growing up. By far though, my favorite was being able to do it at home.

You may wonder why we decided to take the path of homeschooling. Well there are many reasons but to name a few:

~we are not kept in the dark on what our children are learning and they aren’t being told that it is ok to keep secrets from us

~we get to choose what we think is bet for our children to consume on a daily in their education

~they are getting a solid foundation in Bible and phonics (both of which are a foreign concept anymore in the public setting)

~we know for a fact they aren’t having to deal with furries or those of the opposite sex (biologically speaking) going to the bathroom with them…accidents happen though when you don’t lock the door and your 3 yr old brother barges in on you going potty!

~as an agriculture family we are able to be flexible with our school schedule and the kids are not marked for tardiness or no attendance when cattle and sheep get out

Like i said the list could go on but i think you get the picture! Our children’s education is extremely important to us as well as their growth in the Lord. We firmly believe God gave us the parents the important job of making sure both happen. (Proverbs 22:6)

Now i have heard a lot of people say…well i wish i could but i have to work….same girlfriend that’s why i work online. It’s not glorious but it pay the bills and i am able to stay home with my kids. There are also a lot of sacrifices i have had to make to ensure my babies are homeschooled, but i’ll save the pity party.

Others say well i don’t know where to start or i am terrible at teaching my own kids. Guess what!!! There are soooo many homeschool options that were not available when i was a kid! We are going with a streaming curriculum called Abeka (top tier if you ask me) that you get the choice of videos or streaming, by the semester or year, and they send you all the books plus an already planned out teachers book! Work done for you…boom!! You are still the homework mom! There are also lots of coops anymore that you can join through churches, mom groups, ect. I promise there are a myriad of resources to help you be successful!

Or my personal favorite….they won’t have social skills or be normal. I pray they are not the new “normal”! Do you know how many times i have tried to have a conversation with someone and the entire time they were on their phone or didn’t know the proper etiquette of making conversation?! I have seen high schoolers text each other while in the same room!! No i pray my children learn by my example how to talk to all age groups appropriately and with ease.

All in all whatever group you fall into as long as you are making the bet decision for your kids and family you are doing a fantastic job!!
